Urgent Care / After-Hours Clinic

If you develop an acute illness and need to be seen urgently (such as a fever of several days or a limb injury), the Ministry of Health expects "rostered" patients to first make reasonable efforts to contact Dr. Khan’s office for medical care. Dr. Khan holds several urgent-same-day appointment slots every scheduled day for this purpose. If these appointments are full, the family health team operates an Urgent Care / After-Hours Clinic for same-day appointments, exclusively for the use of the clinic’s patients (“rostered” or not). The family health team members will be able to reference  your medical health history when managing your specific health requirements.

The Urgent Care / After-Hours Clinic operates:

MONDAY - through - THURSDAY 5pm-8pm and SATURDAY 9am-Noon

If you need urgent medical care outside of these hours, the clinic coordinates with the Telephone Health Advisory Service (THAS) where a nurse will triage your concern and contact the doctor on call if required. To contact the THAS, call:

1-866-553-7205

Use of the Urgent Care / After-Hours Clinic and/or THAS does not require to be “rostered.”

If you are experiencing an emergency, you must either contact 9-1-1 or proceed to your nearest Emergency Department.

These Family Health Team measures coordinated by Dr. Khan and the clinic leave very few circumstances that require a patient to seek medical care through a walk-in clinic. The Ministry of Health expects patients to seek medical care at their primary family doctor’s office for non-urgent and urgent needs in most circumstances. The Ministry of Health identifies patient use of walk-in clinics by persons with a family doctor as “outside use” and penalizes the family doctor. According to the Ministry of Health, a patient's recurrent outside use may result in being DE-rostered which will result in loss of access to family health team allied health care professionals (such as the pharmacist and dietician).
